TEMPORAL LOBE EPILEPSY WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA

Abstract
Before the development of the electroencephalogram(EEG) by Dr. Hans Berger in the 1930s, all seizure disorders were classified with mental disorders. Indeed, a strong link between seizure and psychiatry has been known for a century. Today, however, this link is possibly less well recognized : DSM- 111 -R (American Psychiatric Association 1987) does not even include such a condition. Nevertheless, as psychiatrists have become more aware of the multiple physical conditions that can cause behavior change and particularly psychosis, they become increasingly aware of the behavior changes associated with seizure disorders.
The study of seizure disorders for psychiatrists is not only important for diagnostic and treatment purposes, it also has many theoretical implications for the understanding of behavioral disorders in general.
We experienced a case of temporal lobe epilepsy with schizophrenia-like symptoms and re-ported it with the literature review.
